Built in a real surgery, not a design studio

I'm Adrian, Practice Manager at Caythorpe & Ancaster Medical Practice in Lincolnshire. I got tired of GPs wandering the corridor mid-consultation looking for a thermometer, so I printed a fix for our own rooms. The clinicians liked it enough that I kept going.

I'm also a director of Newark Emmaus Trust, and a part of every GridGood sale goes to the charity. Every drawer you tidy does a bit of good somewhere else.

About GridGood

A practice manager's fix for a problem every practice has.

The problem

Consulting room equipment lives in drawers. Thermometers, oximeters, peak flow meters, otoscope heads. They get borrowed, returned to the wrong room, buried under a box of tongue depressors, or simply vanish.

Nobody notices until a GP is mid-examination, opens the drawer and finds a gap. Then they leave the patient, knock on a colleague's door, and the whole morning slips ten minutes. It is a small thing that happens constantly, and in a CQC world "we couldn't find the equipment" is not a great sentence to have in the notes.

The fix

GridGood uses the Gridfinity system: a base grid cut to fit your drawer, and holders that click into it. Each holder is shaped around a specific piece of equipment and labelled. When the drawer opens, every item is either sitting in its holder or obviously not. Missing kit becomes a thing you see, not a thing you discover.

Who is behind it

I'm Adrian Down. I manage Caythorpe & Ancaster Medical Practice, a two-site rural dispensing practice near Grantham. I have also been 3D printing things for years, which is how the first GridGood drawer came about.

The other half of the story is Newark Emmaus Trust, where I am a director. NET has housed and supported homeless young people since 1993. GridGood was set up with NET in mind, and a part of every sale goes to the charity.

You send the internal measurements, the base grid is printed to fit. No adhesive, no drilling, no wasted space at the edges.

Made for your kit

Holders are modelled from the actual equipment. If you use something we have not seen, photograph it on a sheet of A4 and we will model it.

Made by one person

Every kit is printed and packed by me in Lincolnshire. Delivery is usually seven to ten working days, and if something is wrong you will be talking to the person who made it.

How it works

Seven steps from an untidy drawer to a tidy one. Most of the work is ours.

  1. Measure the drawer

    Internal length, width and depth in millimetres. A tape measure and thirty seconds. Trolley drawers work the same way.

  2. Pick your holders

    Choose from the catalogue, or just tell us what lives in the drawer. We plan the layout so everything fits.

  3. Choose a colour

    Standard kits come in charcoal grey. Premium kits can be any colour you like, or matched to your practice branding.

  4. Send the quote request

    Measurements, holders, number of drawers, contact details. That is all we need.

  5. Get your quote within 48 hours

    A fixed price for the whole job, with no obligation. IGPM members can use the discount code shared through the Institute.

  6. Confirm and pay

    Pay by card or ask for an invoice if your practice prefers purchase orders. Printing starts once payment is confirmed.

  7. Drop it in

    Your kit arrives in seven to ten working days. Lay the base in the drawer, click the holders on, fill it up. Done before the kettle boils.

Questions people ask

The thing I need to store is not in your catalogue

Photograph it lying on a plain sheet of A4 paper, straight down, and send it with your quote request. We model a holder from the photo, add it to the catalogue and include it in your quote.

What are they made of?

Holders and bases are printed in PLA, a plant-based plastic. They wipe clean with standard surface wipes. They are for storing equipment and do not come into contact with patients.

How long does it take?

Quote within 48 hours, delivery seven to ten working days after payment. Whole-practice orders may take a little longer and we will tell you upfront.

Can we have our practice name on the holders?

Yes. The bespoke tier includes your practice name or logo on each holder. Equipment with the practice name on it tends to find its way home.

How is it priced?

£5 for the base grid (£8 for drawers over 80 squares, roughly trolley size), then £9 to £11 per holder. A premium colour adds £8 a drawer, practice branding £23. A typical consulting room drawer with four or five holders comes to about £45. No kits, no tiers, you pay for what goes in the drawer.

What if it does not fit?

If the base was printed to the measurements you sent and it does not fit, we reprint it free. If the measurements were wrong, we reprint it at cost. Either way you are talking to the person who made it.

GridGood was set up to support this charity, and a part of every sale goes to them. Here is who they are.

What NET does

Newark Emmaus Trust gives vulnerable homeless young people in and around Newark a safe place to live, and the care, support and training to move on from it. Accommodation ranges from high-support shared housing to independent bedsits and community houses for young parents.

Alongside housing, the Trust runs its own training centre, The Hub, where residents build the skills and confidence that make independence stick. The aim is not just a roof, but a real chance to break the cycle of homelessness.
